Kinesio Taping is a Therapeutic Taping Technique, developed over 30 years ago by Kenzo Kase, DC. Making its debut in the 2008 Beijing Olympics on Kerri Walsh, an American beach volleyball player who went on to win her second gold. Today, Therapeutic Taping Methods such as Kinesio Tape, Rock Tape, Spidertech Tape are well-known to a wide variety of weekend warriors, Cross fit Gyms, and semi-pro/ pro athletes, however, here at Unlocking The Body, we use Taping on anyone with repetative stress and chronic issues to acute onset injuries, you don’t have to be a professional or athlete to benefit from the relief Therapeutic Taping can provide.
Therapeutic Taping works by focusing on the pain sensors in the skin which are located between the first and second layers of tissue. By microscopically lifting the skin and making space between the two layers, Therapeutic Taping allows for more blood and lymph flow, space for nerves to heal, and also creates neuromuscular feedback (called proprioception) that inhibits (relaxes) or facilitates stronger firing of muscles and tendons. Correcting muscle function, improving circulation, and pain relief are the three most widely experienced benefits of Therapeutic Taping.
